New climbing crew member at FA
My name is Aidan and I’m the newest crew member at Friends and Allies.
Like most of you reading this, climbing is one of my favourite activities, right up there with eating and sleeping, so I’m super psyched to be able to join the team and help get people on the wall.
However, climbing is not the only thing I’m passionate about.
Ever since I first saw my dad working as a fitter and turner, sculpting chunks of steel into precision parts, I’ve had a fascination with designing, building and testing functional objects, whether it be furniture, tools, cutlery, or clothes.
That is, apart from my love of plants, just ask, I’ll tell you all about it.
So, I am excited to announce that I am also working downstairs in the workshop for Scallywags on some upcoming projects.
What’s it like being a new staff member at FA?
When Tim first spoke to me about potentially starting work at FA, I was immediately stoked.
I needed no convincing, the place and the unique vibe spoke for itself, and I knew it would be good for me.
However, starting a new job at FA was a little daunting to me in the beginning. I had some experience working in other climbing gyms, but self-doubt gets to us all at some point.
Luckily for me, I had Lidia to go through the process of training me up and mentoring me, getting me all set up and in the loop and flow of the behind-the-scenes work that goes on to keep the gym running smoothly.
Thoughts so Far?
My first month has been a pleasure, I’ve really enjoyed working with the rest of the crew, along with some big, sharp, shiny machines in the Made In Workshop downstairs, and filling in for Tim while he’s in Portugal.
In short, I feel welcome, like I’m one of the tjoms, on our mission to keep people psyched, strong and friendly for the greater good.
I’d like to thank Wes, Tim, Al and Lidia for welcoming me and giving me an opportunity to be a part of the Friends and Allies team.
